About Me
A big part of therapy is about being vulnerable. In this section, I will do my best to share some facts about me that tell my story, perhaps even some of my vulnerabilities, as well as some pictures capturing different moments in my life. I feel that this is a critical part of therapy, as I can’t ask my clients to be vulnerable if I am not willing to do so myself.
My Professional Experience
Throughout my career, I’ve provided services to victims of domestic violence, as well as folks struggling with mental health problems such as severe trauma, anxiety, depression, bipolar, and personality disorders. I have also had the privilege of working as a therapist at the County of Orange Health Care Agency DUI and Drug Court program, where I provided individual and group therapy to people struggling with alcohol and substance abuse addiction, as well as a multitude of other issues, such as career problems, family life, and behaviors associated with finances. I also have experience in assisting individuals in times of crisis who were experiencing suicidal ideations and/or homicidal ideations, in which I assisted them with de-escalation techniques, as well as connecting them to appropriate emergency resources/services. Now, my clinical practice is focused on men’s mental health, with an emphasis on helping guys heal from their wounds and be the men they want to be.
My Life Growing Up
As a child, I was diagnosed with severe ADHD and a learning disability that made reading very difficult. My mom was told that her son was “not a good fit for college” as a result of these diagnoses. Clearly, that was not the case, as I am now a licensed therapist. However, I struggled a lot as a kid. I was put on Ritalin for my ADHD, which changed me in ways that I strongly disliked. I struggled so much in elementary school with learning, resulting in my mom having to spend hours with me after school to help me learn the material that I was supposed to learn in class. I owe a great amount to my parents for helping me get through these difficulties. Eventually, I learned how to manage my ADHD without the use of medications, which I never took again. I was able to complete high school without any issue, and went on to college and university thereafter.
Quick Facts About Myself
I love all kinds of music and have quite a musical background, having played the guitar, violin, and drums. Some of my favorite movies/shows are Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Dredd, The Conjuring, Whose Line is It Anyways, and Game of Thrones (at least the earlier seasons). I grew up watching football and still watch it (go Bills!). I play quite a bit of video games and have built my own custom gaming computer. These days, I play some less-known games, such as Chivalry 2, Guild Wars 2 and Hell Let Loose. In the past, I played some of the more popular ones, like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Gears of War, Halo, Ratchet and Clank, Kirby, Mario, and many more. I love watching all sorts of content on YouTube (here is a shameless plug for a great therapy-related channel called “Cinema Therapy,” check them out). I love pets, especially my family cat, Maximus. I’m convinced that Costco makes the best pizza, and I am not ashamed to say that I enjoy Taco Bell.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and learn a bit more about me. I am happy to answer any questions about what is written here.
